GPS leads police to stolen car

LOUISVILLE,KY. (WDRB) —GPS leads police to a stolen state vehicle and the man accused of taking it.

Police say Mark Vera broke into the Department of Highway’s garage in Elizabethtown last night.

This morning,a worker discovered the car missing, along with several keys and cash.

After calling police, they learned the car had a GPS tracking device.

Police then tracked the car to Shelbyville, where they found Vera inside the vehicle at Peddler’s Mall.

“Without the GPS today,we wouldn’t have found this car,or it would have been several days or weeks before we knew the location of it,”says Master Tpr. Norman Chaffins of Kentucky State Police.

Most state vehicles have GPS trackers on them, but there aren’t any plans to put them in all of the cars.
